October Conference Materials Coming Online

The pastors of the South Central District are now home again, which means the annual fall pastoral study conference is over.  Minutes, reports, and essays are coming on line.

Right now (Wednesday, October 19) you can read the minutes, some of the reports and one of the essays (comparing how the various NIV’s have handled some OT Messianic prophecies).  The other reports and essays will be uploaded when electronic copies are received, hopefully in the next couple of days.

Revised conference agenda

With the departure of Pr. Daniel Voigt, who accepted a call to serve a congregation in Minnesota, the agenda for our October pastoral study conference had to be revised slightly.

Prof. Thomas Nass, a member of the Translation Evaluation Committee, who was planning on attending the conference anyways, has consented to fill Pr. Voigt’s slot to cover issues regarding translation philosophy.

Also, please note, members of the District Council, there will be a meeting of the District Council on Tuesday, following the adjournment of the Conference.

You can find the revised agenda here.

The information and agenda for the fall pastoral study conference is now available to read and download.

Risen Savior (Austin, TX) hosts this year’s conference.  All five essays for this conference will deal with the topic of Bible translations, especially focusing on the discussion being had in the Wisconsin Synod over what translation to use in our official publications now that the NIV1984 will be removed from the market.

Hebrew Review in Houston

From Pastor Nate Buege, our district’s adult discipleship coordinator:

“Basic Hebrew Review continuing education class on Thur/Fri, August 4/5. at Abiding Word, Houston.  Thursday the schedule is 9-4; Friday the schedule 8-3.  Prof.Paustian is the instructor.  The class starts with the ABCs and ends with Bible translation.  Cost = somewhere between $50-75.  That’s a bargain, folks!  If you took the class at MLC it would be a whole bunch more.

“To register – contact Mark Tiefel at tiefelmw@gmail.com or 262-224-5744.  Mark T is the contact man and the host for the class.  He also hopes for some Gemutlichkeit at his house within walking distance of the class, as long as we don’t wake the baby…

“Here’s a link to the brochure for the MLC version:  https://www.mlc-wels.edu/home/administration/offices/specialservices/sum11/11RvwBroch/

“I am going to be there and I am excited for the chance to brush up on the Hebrew.  I hope many of you will be there to help me brush up.  It’s too large a task for Paustian to handle alone!  God bless you this summer as you hold out the word of life to many.  God-willing, I’ll see many of you at AW in August, if not sooner.”

On Monday, June 6, the South Central District met for a pre-Synod Convention.  The purpose of this meeting of the District was to go over the materials for the upcoming Synod Convention, to inform our delegates to Convention of our District’s will and opinion on certain matters, and also to give us the opportunity to offer resolutions and memorials to the Synod in Convention from our District.

Currently posted are the minutes of this meeting and the memorial prepared and passed by the body regarding the NIV2011.

Coming soon are the reports of the District President, Home Mission Board, and the Convention Preview Powerpoint.
