Mission Fest 2015 brings ALHS students to greater Houston

ALHS

From March 18th-23rd over 20 high school students from different WELS area-Lutheran high schools came to the greater Houston-area to assist in canvassing efforts for the local congregations. “Mission Fest 2015,” coordinated by WELS Kingdom Workers, was a chance for the Victory of the Lamb (Katy), Abiding Faith (Pinehurst), A Mighty Fortress (Fulshear), and Christ the Lord (Houston) congregations to work together with volunteers from Wisconsin and Illinois to get the word out about Easter services in the community. An added bonus was having Mr. Dave Malnes from TILM ministries and present a workshop on how to conduct door-to-door canvassing. After days of canvassing, a youth group event brought over 100 youth together for the final evening.

Highlights of Mission Fest 2015 include:

  • Students were confident and excited at the opportunity to share their faith by the time they left.
  • Adults and teens were transparent together in their fears and joys of mission work.
  • Several young men in high school now have MLC, pastoral ministry in particular, on their radar more than before.  And several young ladies have MLC and teaching on their radar more than before.
  • The teens made some great friends with kids in other schools.
  • Some people in Katy, Alief, Pinehurst and Fulshear heard the gospel, perhaps for the first time.  6,000 English mailers and 2,800 Spanish mailers were sent out.  39 new unchurched, interested contacts were made in Katy alone.
